2-acetyl-1-pyrroline, one of the most useful applications of molecular markers in rice breeding, is the marker-assisted backcrossing (MAB) approach to rapidly and efficiently transfer a gene into a variety that is popular with farmers. In this approach the desirable features of the recurrent parent are retained by selecting against background markers of the donor parent. In this research the 20 F1 lines have been used as sources of the aroma gene crosses between the aromatic elite hybrid rice Oryza sativa indica variety and the non-aromatic rice. The F1 grains and leaves were non-aromatic while the some cross F1 non-aroma. Linkage analysis between Sequence taged site (STS) markers and the aroma locus for the aromatic F1 plants aroma gene to a chromosome 8 region flanked by STS markers PG28F-R.
