Iranian President Elect Supports Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering
Thursday, 2013/07/25 | 08:22:16

Iranian President Elect Dr. Hassan Rouhani's message focused on food safety and health during the 8th National Biotechnology Congress of Iran and the 4th Congress on Biosafety and Genetic Engineering, held recently in Tehran.

In his message, Dr. Rouhani said that the theme Food Safety and Health was chosen for the conference which shows the fundamental role of biotechnology and genetic engineering in ensuring health and food safety of the country. He added that: "In today's world, the use of biotechnology and genetic engineering is not only a necessity but it is also a desired choice for resolving food, health, and environmental problems. Any ignorance in achieving and using modern biotechnology could certainly make us to be blamed by the next generations."

The President further stated  that the holding of the two congresses is timely as his government, tagged as the regime of "prudence and hope" will be starting in a few months. He is looking forward to the results of the conference particularly the updates of the current situation in science and technology, the challenges and the strategic solutions that could open progress in national food production, food security and health.

Dr. Rouhani commended the assembly of 2,000 scientists, researchers, professors, and students, by saying that "Undoubtedly, no group loftier than the country's scientific associations and the expert team present in the conference can represent the true recognition of the current situation and the solution for reaching the desired situation."
