FAO News 05/12/2019

5 December, 2019, Geneva – FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu today participated at the UN Inter-Agency Standing Committee Principals Meeting together with UN counterparts whose agencies, like FAO, work on the humanitarian front.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the FAO Director-General to exchange ideas with fellow principals on global humanitarian work issues.

Speaking before the meeting, Qu noted that there is a need to seize the opportunity provided by the reform of the United Nations development system (UNDS) and to explore new business models aimed at making the UN humanitarian system stronger, more tangible and more deliverable.

Meeting participants included, International Committee of the Red Cross Director-General Yves Daccord; International Council of Voluntary Agencies Executive Secretary Ignacio Packer; International Organization for Migration Director-General António Ferreira Vitorino; United Nations Development Programme Administrator Achim Steiner; United Nations Population Fund Executive Director Natalia Kanem; United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi; United Nations Human Settlements Programme Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif, and World Food Programme Executive Director David Beasley.
