ABSTRACT

The title “Completing a process of tomato growing (Solanum lycopersicum L.) in a high - yield production in glasshouse condition in Lam Dong province” was implemented at Lien Nghia town, Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province within two years from April 2010 to April 2012. The objectives were to accomplish a process of tomato planting in glasshouse condition with a target of high yields.

Experiment 1: Selecting a high - yield tomato variety which is suitable for glasshouse planting in Lam Dong province. The experiment was set up as one - way factorial design (Randomized Complete Block Design), including 4 different varieties such as Lahay 344, Labell, Clay and Anna with 3 replications spreading over two seasons: rainy season from March to October 2010 and dry season from October 2010 to April 2011.

Experiment 2: Selecting the appropriate density and fertilizer rate for high - yield tomato growing in glasshouse in Lam Dong province.  The experiment was set up as two - way factorial combination, the main factor was the density whilst another one was fertilizer rate, and was designed by Split Plot Design with 12 treatments and 3 replications. The density was divided into 3 levels: 50,000 plants/ha, 33,000 plants/ha and 25,000 plants/ha.

The outcomes of the experiment showed that the two varieties of Lahay 344 and Labell gave the highest quality and productivity in all varieties, accounting for  205.51 tonnes/ha and 222.33 tonnes/ha respectively. However, the Lahay 344 gave the best choice for tomato’s production in glasshouse condition based on their properties such as large fruit weight and stable quality during the crop, hard peduncle, less disease, flattened fruit shape, nice color and adapting to climate and cultivated conditions in Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province.

              The additional fator was fertilizer rate which was set up in 4 rates as 240N – 100P2O5 – 275K2O (kg/ha) (rate 1), 300N – 125P2O5 – 344K2O (kg/ha) (rate 2), 360N – 150P2O5 – 413K2O (kg/ha) (rate 3), and 420N – 175P2O5 – 482K2O (kg/ha) (rate 4).

The results from the experiment 2 showed that with the density of 25,000 tomato plants/ha and the rate of fertilizer application at rate 3 (360N – 150P2O5 – 413K2O) and rate 4 (420N – 175P2O5 – 482K2O) gave the highest yield and economic effeciency for tomatoes growing in glasshouse conditions in Lam Dong province.

All in all, the rate of return from tomatoes which are grown in field condition gets only 1.17 while the ones grown in glasshouse conditon have achieved from 2.3 to 2.44 times greater. Therefore, growing tomatoes in glasshouse gives an increase the profit from 1.1 to 1.2 times as much as compared to them which are grown in the field. In addition, there is an increase of net income of tomato production grown in glasshouse condition, and accounting for 1,111,880 thousand dong, fourfold in comparison to the ones grown in field condition. Moreover, the quality and safety of these varieties are quarantined followed by the 99/2008/QĐ - BNN Decision, issued on 15/10/2008 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
