The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) GMO Panel has released its Scientific Opinion on the safety of genetically modified (GM) insect-protected maize MON 95275, for import, processing, and food and feed uses within the European Union (EU) and does not include cultivation.
Following the submission of application GMFF-2022-5890 EFSA-Q-2022-00330 under Regulation (EC) No. 1829/2003 from Bayer CropScience, the EFSA GMO Panel was asked to deliver a Scientific Opinion on the safety of GM insect-protected maize MON 95275. In their Scientific Opinion, the GMO Panel did not identify safety concerns regarding the toxicity and allergenicity of the Mpp75Aa1.1 and Vpb4Da2 proteins and the DvSnf 7 dsRNA and derived siRNAs as expressed in maize MON 95275, and found no evidence that the genetic modification would change the overall allergenicity of maize MON 95275.
The GMO Panel concludes that maize MON 95275 is as safe as its conventional counterpart and the tested non-GM maize reference varieties with respect to potential effects on human and animal health and the environment.
For more details, read the Scientific Opinion for MON 95275 in the EFSA Journal.
