ISAAA and DA Biotech Program to Hold a Webinar on Regulatory Frameworks for New Breeding Techniques in Crops

ISAAA Inc., in collaboration with the Philippine Agriculture and Fisheries Biotechnology Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA Biotech Program), will hold the webinar titled Global and Local Perspectives on the Regulatory Frameworks for New Breeding Techniques in Crops on March 6, 2025, via Zoom. The registration is now open to all interested participants.

 

The webinar aims to provide information on the biosafety regulations and policy framework/s governing the use of New Breeding Techniques (NBTs) in improving crops and expound on the challenges and potential policy directions that can support the responsible and sustainable use of these technologies. The webinar also aims to be a venue for stakeholders to engage in meaningful discussions on harmonized regulations facilitating the responsible use of NBTs in agriculture.

 

The discussions will include the following topics:

  • - Regulating Innovations: New Breeding Techniques (NBTs) in the Philippines
  •  
  • - A Global Perspective on Regulating Crops Developed through New Breeding Technologies

 

The webinar will feature Ms. Ma. Lorelie U. Agbagala, Assistant Scientist at the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Head Secretariat of the National Committee on Biosafety of the Philippines (NCBP) and DOST - Biosafety Committee, and Dr. Michael Jones, a Professor from Murdoch University and the lead author of Enabling Trade in Gene-Edited Produce in Asia and Australasia: The Developing Regulatory Landscape and Future Perspectives published in Plants.
