2024 Student grant scheme winners in Viet Nam

The CGIAR Research Initiative on Sustainable Healthy Diets through Food Systems Transformation (SHiFT) and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology are pleased to announce the awardees of the 2024 student grant scheme. The purpose of the grant is to enrich master’s-level research projects on topics related to sustainable healthy diets, the food environment, and/or food systems in Viet Nam. Each winner receives US$4,000 to support data collection and fieldwork for their master’s thesis.

The CGIAR Research Initiative on Sustainable Healthy Diets through Food Systems Transformation (SHiFT) and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology are pleased to announce the awardees of the 2024 student grant scheme. The purpose of the grant is to enrich master’s-level research projects on topics related to sustainable healthy diets, the food environment, and/or food systems in Viet Nam. Each winner receives US$4,000 to support data collection and fieldwork for their master’s thesis.

 

The 2024 winners:

  • Le Khanh An, (Korea University): Validity of the Vietnamese version of the Sustainable and Healthy Eating Behaviors Scale in Adults: This study aims to adapt and validate the Sustainable and Healthy Eating Behaviors Scale for the Vietnamese adult population, ensuring its cultural relevance and accuracy.

  • Nguyen Truong Bao Tran (Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy): Minimum Dietary Diversity and Related Factors Among Women Aged 15-49 in Phong Dien District, Can Tho City, Vietnam in 2024: This research will explore the dietary diversity among women in Phong Dien district, identifying key factors that influence their food choices and nutritional status.

  • Nguyen Minh Quan (Hanoi University of Science and Technology): Promoting a Sustainable Healthy Diet in Vietnam: investigation into consumer insights and development of an alternative protein rich product from alcoholic beverage byproducts. This project will delve into consumer insights to develop alternative protein-rich products derived from alcohol beverage byproducts, offering a sustainable solution to dietary needs.

  • Tran Gia Bao (Faculty of International Business, School of Economics, Can Tho University): Assessing the Effects of Food Environments on Food Consumption Behavior Towards Sustainable Healthy Diets Among the Urban Poor in the Mekong Delta: This critical study will assess how food environments impact the dietary behaviors of the urban poor, with a focus on promoting sustainable and healthy eating habits.

 

In addition to the grant, the winners will attend a one-day introductory workshop on food systems research and mentorship from a SHiFT researcher. Students will also submit a final report summarizing their research at the end of the year and make a presentation to the SHiFT Country Coordination Unit, a group of CGIAR researchers and national partners, on the outcomes of their studies.

 

The International Food Policy Research Institute and the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT lead SHiFT in close collaboration with Wageningen University and Research and with contributions from the International Potato Center. SHiFT combines high-quality nutritional and social science research capacity with development partnerships to generate innovative, robust solutions that contribute to healthier, more sustainable dietary choices and consumption of sustainable healthy diets. It builds on CGIAR’s unparalleled track record of agricultural research for development, including ten years of work on food systems and nutrition under the CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH).
