Australia`s Gene Technology Regulator Invites Comments on Field Trial of GM Canola
Tuesday, 2024/07/23 | 08:08:01

The Australian Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) is inviting comments on an application from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to conduct a field trial of canola genetically modified for increased abiotic stress tolerance.

The trial is proposed to take place at up to three sites with a total area of up to six hectares per year over six years. The field trial sites will be in New South Wales and South Australia. The GM plants grown in this field trial would not be used for human food or animal feed.

The OGTR has prepared a Risk Assessment and Risk Management Plan (RARMP) for this application and welcomes written submissions on issues relating to the protection of human health and environmental safety before deciding whether to issue the license. Submissions for DIR 205 should be received by August 23, 2024.

For more details on how to submit comments, visit the DIR 205 page on the OGTR website.
