Cairo University Celebrates Biotech Day 2016
Sunday, 2016/05/22 | 07:37:57

Faculty of Agriculture at Cairo University, as the pioneer in initiating biotechnology program in the region, hosted the 2016 Biotechnology Day on May 7, 2016. This outreach effort was designed to disseminate information about biotechnology and to acquaint new students with the biotechnology program and career opportunities in the biotechnology industry. The event included the participation from all local folks involved in biotechnology.

Prof. Naglaa Abdallah, Coordinator of BSc Biotechnology program and Director of Egypt Biotechnology Information Center-Egypt, together with staff members of the program, formally opened the celebration. The program started in 2002 as the first biotechnology program in Egypt and the Arab region. In her speech, Dr. Abdallah passed her warmest wishes to the new generation of the biotechnology students and stressed the importance of the technology. She also illustrated the role of the technology in the economy of Egypt and the lifestyle of millions of Egyptian farmers.

The students took the initiative in preparing the program, which included many activities such as a brief introduction to the biotechnology program, the applications and benefits of biotechnology in Egyptian life. The students also performed a play to simplify science concepts.
