Highlight On Research & Development Activities By IAS in 2023

In 2023, the IAS has conducted 34 R&D activities with the total budget of VND 22.58 billion.



The outputs are as followed:


- Thirteen research articles were received and published in Vietanamese journals.


- Nine new crop varieties have developed including 3 varieties of cashewnut; 2 potato; 3 chrysanthemum; 1 carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus)


- There are 15 protocols approved as seed technology and agro-practices on rice, cashewnut, black pepper, cassava and cut flowers.


- Rice (Oryzas sativa L.): Four promising rice varieties with colored rice grain were identified: SR20, SR14, SR21 and SR22. Of four ones, SR14 genotype included high anthocyanin with 302 mg/kg; low glycemic index (GI) of 17.6. The SR21 exhibited its GI of 49.8. There are three rice lines in S5 generation with good responding to acid sulphate soils.


- Cassava (Manihot esculenta): Over 5,000 crosses were carried out to successfully select 2 elite cassava genotypes under high pressure of mosaic virus disease. There are 31 elite cassava lines showing resistance to mosaic virus disease, with high fresh tuber and starch productivity at Đồng Nai, Tây Ninh after three continuous years.


- Cashew nut (Anacardium occidentale L.): The IAS continued to assess 6 elite cassava genotypes under multilocational yield trials in  Đông Nam Bộ, Tây Nguyên and Duyên Hải Nam Trung bộ.


- Black pepper (Piper nigrum): There are 120 key clones from Tiêu Phú Quốc genotype to be identified. The agronomical traits’ data base of Tiêu Phú Quốc have been set up in the third year. The scion population platform of Tiêu Phú Quốc is also to be established.


- Mungbean (Vigna radiata): The mungbean variety HLVĐ78 has been successfully selected with high yielding and wide adaptibility.


- Cut flower crops: There are 10 selected chrysanthemum flower genotypes, 8 carnation genotypes and 5 rosa genotypes promisingly.


- Carrot (Daucus carota): Identification of 17 oustanding hybrids with over 45 t/ha was reported. Of them, there are four hybrids offered 50.7 – 52.4 t/ha. Four promising carrot genotypes have been tested in Lâm Đồng, Đắk Lắk and Gia Lai, they addressed their higher yield as compared to local check variety of 15.7 – 23.8%. The CR21.36 carrot line obtained the highest yield of 45.1 t/ha. In Lâm Đồng, CR21.36 obtained 47.3 t/ha under fertilizer application of 180 kg N/ha with spacing of 12 cm.


- Atichoke (Cynara scolymus): Seed multiplication by appropripate tissue culture practice was determined as the best way in seed technology under Da Lat condition.


 - Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa): Through ACIAR cooporation, the IAS has identified two quinoa genotypes as 2-Want and Titicaca adapting salinity and drought under green house condition. In particular, Titicaca variety offered its drought tolerance and its high productivity under the stress.


- Capacity building: In 2023, nine IAS scientists leaved for Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Laos, China and Thailand via the bilateral cooperation projects. The IAS received the visiting plans by five international delegations from Korea, Myanma and Japan.
