The Ghanaian deposit comes from the Plant Genetic Resources Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR-PGRRI). Researchers from Brookhaven National Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy have engineered enzymes that could generate biomass that can be efficiently converted into biofuels and other useful bioproducts. The paper is published in the Plant Biotechnology Journal. The senior plant biologist at Brookhaven Laboratory, Chang-Jun Liu said, “The concept of biomass to biofuel seems simple, but it is technically very difficult to release the sugars.

Many rural families regularly consume as few as four of the ten major food groups, with rice often forming much of the meal. Scientists from Iran, Kenya, and India recently benefited from a 21-day "International Training Course on Conservation Agriculture for Sustainable Intensification of Drylands" organized by the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The course, which was held at the ICRISAT Headquarters in India, trained ten delegates in modern tools and techniques implemented in conservation agriculture to promote sustainable, resilient, and profitable dryland farming.
