Saturday, 2023/12/02 | 07:02:12

ISAAA November 29, 2023

Crab fishers and LGUs participated in the Pinoy Biotek Seminar: Stock Enhancement of Blue Swimming Crab on November 24, 2023 held at Kota Beach, Bantayan Island and via Zoom. The event was organized by ISAAA Inc., as part of the Pinoy Biotek project in partnership with the DA-Fisheries Biotechnology Center (DA-FBC), and supported by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region VII (DA-BFAR7).

The hybrid event served as an avenue to inform stakeholders of the potential and opportunities of improved hatchery protocol for stock enhancement of blue swimming crab. It also boosted awareness of the general public on the impact of the technology. The event was attended by about 46 participants at the venue and 136 participants via Zoom. The Facebook livestream had a reach of 2533.

Ms. Lebeth Rodrigues, the Program Director of PACPI, shared about the market potential of blue swimming crab and explained that making the crab industry sustainable can help with the development of the Philippines. Mr. Conrado Toston and Ms. Joanne Garcia from BFAR7 discussed the technology, as well as recommendations and possibilities for further research of the project.
