In the present study, using a diploid potato mapping population and Diversity Array Technology (DArT) markers, we identified twelve quantitative trait loci (QTL) for tuber starch content on seven potato chromosomes: I, II, III, VIII, X, XI, and XII. The most important QTL spanned a wide region of chromosome I (42.0–104.6 cM) with peaks at 63 and 84 cM which explained 17.6 and 19.2 % of the phenotypic variation, respectively. ADP-glucose pyrophosphorylase (AGPase) is the key enzyme for starch biosynthesis.

A rice introgression line, NIL-SS1, and its recurrent parent, Teqing, were used to investigate the influence of the introgression segment on plant growth. The current research showed NIL-SS1 had an increased flag leaf width, total leaf area, spikelet number per panicle and grain yield, but a decreased photosynthetic rate. Evolutionary theory underpins our understanding of the aging process. The many aspects of reproduction that decline with maternal age in animals include number of offspring born, offspring size, and neonatal survival. Current theories of aging ignore potential differences in the evolutionary pressures on these traits. Here, we combine two important branches of evolutionary theory to allow consideration of age-dependent selection at both offspring and maternal levels.
