Vietnam BIC Holds Biotech Crops Seminar in Quang Ninh Province
Saturday, 2015/11/14 | 08:09:00

AgBiotech Vietnam (BIC Vietnam) in collaboration with the Central Farmers Union of Vietnam and Farmers Union of Quang Ninh province organized the seminar on biotech crops last November 5, 2015. The objective of the seminar is to provide information on biotech crops to sensitize farmers at the grassroots and to provide scientific basis in choosing crop varieties suitable to specific conditions in their localities.

The more than 30 participants were composed of representatives of Central Vietnam Farmers Union, Farmers' Union of Quang Ninh province, Office of the Provincial People's Committee, branches, businesses, cooperatives, and farmers clubs from several localities in the province. Dr. Le Huy Ham, Director of the Institute of Agricultural Genetics gave a talk on the development and application of biotech crops globally and in Vietnam.

The seminar participants asked questions relating to the safety and economic benefits of biotech crops, especially GE corn varieties currently permitted for cultivation in Vietnam. Leaders of Farmers Union of Quang Ninh and the participants acknowledged that the seminar is the first of its kind in Quang Ninh and was very effective in raising awareness on biotech crops.

Representatives of Agbiotech Vietnam invited subscribers to the CBU and provided translated materials from  ISAAA and Agbiotech Vietnam.
