Sorghum Database Developed

Researchers from RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource developed a new database for sorghum. The database, called MOROKOSHI, provides information on the genes observed in sorghum at different growth stages. This was done by closely examining the transcriptome of Sorghum bicolor which led to the identification of 20,000 genes.

These identified genes and their functions are stored in MOROKOSHI, and can be accessed freely. This database aims to help breeders by providing information on the genes, especially those involved in sugar metabolism and starch biosynthesis, for further development of sorghum varieties.

Details of the story can be read at RIKEN's website.
