Better Plant Genome Database to be Developed

A group of French bioinformatics experts, including Alexis Dereeper of the Institute of Research for Development, Gaëtan Droc of CIRAD, and Manuel Ruiz of CIRAD and CIAT is collaborating with Lukas Mueller, associate professor in Boyce Thompson Institute to further develop genomic databases of different plants. A platform called South Green aims to provide tools for genomic databases of rice, coffee, cocoa and other crops.

The group plans to design the platform in a way that allows biologists to analyze different plant species using the same tool. This development will help to identify and compare genes on the genomes from different crops and be able to bring together genetic information necessary for plant breeding.
