Novel Technique Allows Simultaneous Fluorescent Labeling of Multiple Proteins

Researchers developed a new method to label proteins simultaneously. This technique may have various applications in cell biology and drug discovery. Observation of proteins is essential for different branches of research. Tracking the location of proteins within the cell is necessary to understand and explore their functions. However, this is challenging since the fluorescent labeling must be attached individually to every protein.

Observation of proteins is essential for different branches of research. Tracking the location of proteins within the cell is necessary to understand and explore their functions. However, this is challenging since the fluorescent labeling must be attached individually to every protein.

Researchers from CeMM Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences produced visual proteomics Cells (vpCells) to address the issue. This automated high-throughput method uses CRISPR-Cas9 to attach fluorescent proteins to the ones under study. An AI-assisted image recognition system will then analyze the marked proteins and identify which cell they are located in based on their fluorescence microscopy images. Their findings demonstrate the potential of the technique in the health industry.
