An online survey of 1,665 consumers showed that Vermont's mandatory labeling of GM food products strongly misleads consumers.
The survey asked the respondents about the Vermont law, Act 120 which requires on-pack labeling of food products with "partially produced with genetic engineering," "may be produced with genetic engineering," or "produced with genetic engineering." The results showed that a significant number of the consumers think that such labeling mean that the products are less safe, less healthful, less nutritious, and worse for the environment.
The survey was conducted in June 2016 by the MSR Group and sponsored by food and agriculture trade associations including American Soybean Association, Corn Refiners Association, National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, National Grain and Feed Association, and SNAC International.
