| TGAC Leads Development of Better Rice Varieties in Vietnam |

The Genome Analysis Centre (TCAG) in UK and the Agriculture Genetics Institute (AGI) in Vietnam are working together to characterize the genetic diversity of traditional rice varieties from Vietnam and develop genomic markers related to disease resistance and salt tolerance. Thirty six (36) local rice varieties have been analyzed as part of the first phase of the project. |

The Genome Analysis Centre (TCAG) in UK and the Agriculture Genetics Institute (AGI) in Vietnam are working together to characterize the genetic diversity of traditional rice varieties from Vietnam and develop genomic markers related to disease resistance and salt tolerance.
Thirty six (36) local rice varieties have been analyzed as part of the first phase of the project. The goal is to explore the genetic diversity of 600 local rice varieties and develop molecular tools to be used in precision breeding of better rice varieties.
Researchers from TGAC, AGI and other participating institutes will conduct a trainers' training called ‘Train the Trainer' in Norwich to equip Vietnamese researchers on bioinformatics and genomics analysis. TGAC will also develop a public database containing variant data about the latest genome assemblies and annotation, which can be used by the Vietnamese researchers.
