Delta Talks webinar highlights new studies on understanding the diet of the Cambodia-Mekong Delta
Tuesday, 2024/07/30 | 08:30:09

CGIAR July 25 2024

For the twelfth installment of Delta Talks, the CGIAR Initiative on Asian Mega-Deltas (AMD) and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) presented a webinar on understanding the diet of the Cambodia-Mekong Delta.

Pirom Khiev of the Cambodia Development Resource Institute, Sokcheng Phay of WorldFish-Cambodia, and Liz Ignowski of the World Vegetable Center discussed food consumption patterns in Cambodia. Their presentations covered changes in household food consumption, results of a rural food consumption survey, and a case study on rural food vendors in the Mekong Delta.

Ms. Khiev shared findings from a study analyzing how and why food consumption varies among Cambodians over 20 years using national survey data. Ms. Phay presented results from a detailed survey of 100 households in each of five AMD provinces, conducted in May/June 2023, exploring rural food production, consumption, and livelihoods. Dr. Ignowski shared insights from a study of 212 rural food vendors across five Mekong Delta provinces, investigating the types of food available.
