Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) are the two classes of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) present predominantly in plant cells and have various gene regulatory functions at pre- and post-transcriptional levels. Previously deemed as "junk", these ncRNAs have now been reported to be an important player in gene expression regulation, especially in stress conditions in many plant species. Black pepper, scientifically known as Piper nigrum L., despite being one of the most economically important spice crops, lacks studies related to these ncRNAs.

Phytophthora species cause severe diseases on food, forest, and ornamental crops. Since the genus was described in 1876, it has expanded to comprise over 190 formally described species. There is a need for an open access phylogenetic tool that centralizes diverse streams of sequence data and metadata to facilitate research and identification of Phytophthora species. We used the Tree-Based Alignment Selector Toolkit (T-BAS) to develop a phylogeny of 192 formally described species and 33 informal taxa in the genus Phytophthora using sequences of eight nuclear genes.

Cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) angular leaf spot is caused by pigmented and non-pigmented strains of Xanthomonas citri pv. anacardii, which have been isolated from infected plants in Brazil. The disease symptoms may be observed in leaves, stems, and fruits. Given that infection in young fruits results in fruits unsuitable for commercialization, angular leaf spot represents a serious threat to the cashew crop in Brazil.

Recombination is crucial for crop breeding because it can break linkage drag and generate novel allele combinations. However, the high-resolution recombination landscape and its driving forces in soybean are largely unknown. Here, we constructed eight recombinant inbred line (RIL) populations and genotyped individual lines using the high-density 600K SoySNP array, which yielded a high-resolution recombination map with 5636 recombination sites at a resolution of 1.37 kb.

Rice grassy stunt virus (RGSV), a typical negative single-stranded RNA virus, invades rice and generates several disease signs, including dwarfing, tillering, and sterility. Previous research has revealed that RGSV-encoded proteins can force the host's ubiquitin-proteasome system to utilize them for viral pathogenesis. However, most of the studies were limited to a single omics level and lacked multidimensional data collection and correlation analysis on the mechanisms of RGSV-rice interactions.

Plants have evolved various mechanisms for low P tolerance, one of which is changing their membrane lipid composition by remodeling phospholipids with non-phospholipids. The objective of this study was to investigate the remodeling of membrane lipids among rice cultivars under P deficiency. Rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars (Akamai, Kiyonishiki, Akitakomachi, Norin No. 1, Hiyadateine, Koshihikari, and Netaro) were grown in 0 (-P) and 8 (+P) mg P L-1 solution cultures.

Hybrids between Asian cultivated rice (Oryza sativa L.) and African cultivated rice (Oryza glaberrima Steud) display severe hybrid sterility (HS), hindering the utilization of strong heterosis in hybrids between these species. Several African rice selfish loci causing HS in Asian–African cultivated rice hybrids have been identified, but few such Asian rice selfish loci have been found. In this study, we identified an Asian rice selfish locus, S58, which causes hybrid male sterility (HMS) in hybrids between the Asian rice variety 02428 and the African rice line CG14.
